DESIGN AND RESULTS

Overview

For this assignment, you will complete the Methods section and the Results section of your hypothetical behavior analytic study. Since you have not conducted the study, you will need to create hypothetical data to present and graph. Then, you will graph the results and provide a visual analysis of the graph.

Instructions

Complete the following sections of your hypothetical behavior analytic study.

Methods

You completed the previous pieces of the Methods section in your previous assignment. Be sure to integrate any feedback you received from you instructor.

Design

  • Select the single-subject design that best fits your study based upon your research and understanding of each design (reversal, withdrawal, multiple baseline across participants, behaviors, or settings, changing criterion, alternating treatment/multielement).
  • Describe why you selected it and how the design is specifically implemented within your hypothetical research study.

Results

  • Create hypothetical data for your study. Describe the results of the intervention that was implemented.
  • Provide a graph of the data using the appropriate single-subject design graph.
    • Copy and paste the graph(s) into the same document as the rest of the assignment (do not submit separate files).
    • Graphs should use the guidelines from Chapter 6 of your Applied Behavior Analysis text, including chart title, data line with markers in black and white only, phase labels, phase change lines, figure caption, x axis line and label, y axis line and label, and any additional elements depending upon the individual single subject design.
  • Summarize results of the graph in a visual analysis (trend, level, variability) across and between phases.

Additional Requirements

  • Written communication: Should be free of errors that detract from the overall message.
  • APA formatting: Use current APA style and formatting, paying particular attention to citations and references. Refer to Evidence and APALinks to an external site. for citing and referencing tips.
  • Length: 7-9 double-spaced pages, not including the title page or reference page.
  • References: A minimum of four scholarly or professional resources.
  • Font and font size: Times New Roman, 12 point.

Competencies Measured

By successfully completing this assignment, you will demonstrate your proficiency in the following course competencies and scoring guide criteria:

  • Competency 1: Apply techniques of behavioral measurement and data display.
    • Present a complete Methods section.
    • Summarize the results by visually analyzing the graph.
  • Competency 2: Discriminate features of single-subject experimental designs based on current research in the field.
    • Justify the single-subject design chosen for the hypothetical study.
    • Provide a graph of the results that reflects the single-subject design chosen.
  • Competency 4: Communicate in a manner that is scholarly and consistent with expectations for professionals in the field of psychology.
    • Demonstrate an academic writing style through well-organized prose that follows assignment guidelines.
    • Demonstrate compliance with current APA style, citation, and referencing guidelines.
