Healthcare Marketing

Brittany Gilbert

According to the textbook, “The American Marketing Association (2017) defines marketing as “the activity, set of institutions, and processes for creating, communicating, delivering, and exchanging offerings that have value for customers, clients, partners, and society at large” (para. 1).” Healthcare managers can use marketing concepts to help reach customers so they can buy the service or products being offered by the healthcare manger. Sharon Buchbinder said, “Customers can include health care consumers, patients, caregivers, families of those with chronic conditions, populations with specific diseases, physicians, hospitals or other providers, insurers, payers, non-profit health associations, intermediaries, or even the public at large.” (Buchbinder pg. 118).” This is huge, not only for healthcare managers, but it can also change. the company’s ability to move forward as a hospital or doctors office. I truly believe that hospitals and doctors offices did not search to find employees to fill a spot in marketing because they did not know that would be a career for an employee. When you think of a hospital or any healthcare organization you think of doctors, nurses, cafeteria workers, janitors, techs, and hospital administration. I never thought there would be someone who works in marketing for a hospital organization.  I think that today healthcare marketing is a pervasive reality because in the past seven to ten years colleges started offering degrees in marketing, so now we have more people who are equipped and have degrees in that field that can be an asset to hospital and doctors office administration.
