- Share this clip with a friend, co-worker or family member and ask them to watch it (you may also discuss with a colleague in this class). After they watch it, discuss it with them. You might start by asking “What are your thoughts?” or “What came up for you when you watched this?” Make notes for yourself of your own thoughts/feelings about the conversation when you are done,OR
- Reach out in your social media spaces and take an “informal poll”. Specifically, inquire of who has heard of “The Welfare Queen”. For those who have, try to follow up to see what they know. Make some notes for yourself about your own thoughts/feelings following this process, AND
- Take some time to reflect on your own how this story might have been different if Linda Taylor was discovered to be a White woman in the U.S. who was accused of committing welfare fraud. Do you believe the outcome would be the same? Why or why not? Also reflect on what it might mean that Linda Taylor is most notable for accusations of welfare fraud versus the other accusations mentioned in the clip. What might that say about our values related to welfare versus our values related to the other accusations mentioned?
