Business & Finance 7-3 Final Project: Case Study Analysis Assignment

Overview

The final project for this course requires students to use a case study from the textbook, Project Management: A Managerial Approach. The goal of this final project is to apply the knowledge of project management acquired in the course and to conduct an in-depth analysis of a real-life project. You will be required to evaluate project management implementation with this case study on the following elements:

  • Project planning, initiation, and project charter development and effectiveness
  • Risk management, top-down budget estimation, and bottom-up budget estimation
  • Project activity and work breakdown structure management
  • Integration of project management knowledge areas

Main Elements

The goal of this final project is to apply the knowledge of project management acquired in the course and to conduct an in-depth analysis of a real-life project. Below is the Case Study from the textbook to critique:

  • Automotive Builders, Inc.: The Stanhope Project, located in the Additional Case Study section of your textbook.

Critically review and evaluate your selected case study. Answer the questions that follow to provide a detailed critique of the selected case study. Ensure that you consider concepts and theories learned in the course. Include an assessment of the effectiveness of the project proposal and selection process, scope management, work breakdown structure development and implementation, and integration of project management knowledge areas. Your main ideas and responses to the questions should be supported by project management concepts and/or theories presented in this course. Consider including in your response aspects of the project life cycle, phases, use of project management software tools, or further use/integration of project management knowledge areas to the selected case study. The key to a successful final project is to avoid providing text only on your personal beliefs on the case study without discussing applicable project management knowledge areas or theoretical concepts. In addition to the textbook, keyword searches of the Shapiro Library database can be useful in identifying peer-reviewed articles that support main ideas and responses to case study questions.

Students may use MS Project to support their answers.
