Research any county or state and find two articles where the county or state has or is currently prosecuting a defendant for rape or statutory rape. Post links to the articles at the bottom of your post. Discuss the circumstances of each of the cases. Why are these types of crimes are so difficult to prosecute?

A teenager has been charged as an adult in the case of Madison Brooks, a Louisiana State University student who was allegedly raped then left on the side of a road where she was struck and killed by a car. A grand jury indicted Desmond Carter, 17, Wednesday on charges of first-degree rape and third-degree rape. The Associated Press does not normally name juveniles accused of a crime but is identifying Carter because he has been formally charged as an adult. The story was released back in February of this year.

A jury in Los Angeles on Wednesday convicted Danny Masterson, the actor best known for his role on the sitcom “That ’70s Show,” of having raped two women in a case that drew widespread attention because of accusations that the Church of Scientology had tried to discourage his accusers. The mixed verdict came after a jury deadlocked on all three charges in November, resulting in a mistrial. The retrial lasted more than a month and jurors deliberated for more than a week before finding him guilty of two counts of rape by force or fear. Masterson, 47, was taken into custody after the verdict. He will face up to 30 years to life in state prison when he is sentenced on Aug. 4, the district attorney’s office said.

Rape cases are notoriously hard to try in part because of the burden of proof; there are usually only two witnesses to the crime the victim and the defendant.

In the Bible we read in Deuteronomy 22:28-29, “If a man find a damsel that is a virgin, which is not betrothed, and lay hold on her, and lie with her, and they be found; Then the man that lay with her shall give unto the damsel’s father fifty shekels of silver, and she shall be his wife; because he hath humbled her, he may not put her away all his days”
