Each week, we have been introduced to a different youth. In Week 1, we learned about an elementary school girl by the name of Gabby. We watched her journey start with academic struggles and then home life struggles and end with her ultimately dropping out of school and being detained for selling drugs. In Week 2, we learned about Unique who, impacted by different environmental factors, chose a different path because of the positive social capital provided by a teacher and a School Resource Officer (SRO). Lastly, in Week 3, we met Pham who struggled to acclimate to American customs and was eventually detained for selling drugs.

You should choose a character that you really connect with in some way. Maybe they are relatable to a prior experience, or maybe they represent the population you would like to serve in your future career. Review their case, thinking specifically about the following:
- Their age
- Their issues
- Cultural background
- Gender
- Family factors
In each of these cases, punishment was used in various ways to address and change each character’s behavior. However, as we have learned, rehabilitation can provide better results than punishment.
Answer the following questions:
- Why did you choose this particular person?
- How do you think counseling or other rehabilitative measures would have helped this person overcome their struggle?
