Part 1
Select a coach or a leader within your current organization or a group you belong to. Set aside 30-60 minutes to conduct the interview. Using the following questions as your guide, interview your selected participant. Feel free to add additional questions based upon your understanding of this week’s Team Leadership concepts.
· How does he or she define leadership?
· What is his/her mental model of the coaching situation?
· What types of decisions does he or she need to make?
· When does he or she intervene in a situation?
· How does he or she diagnose athlete or team deficiencies?
· Head off future problems?
· Balance task and relational concerns?
Based on the interview data, write a 1-2 page summary of the interview. Use the following questions as a guide.
· How closely does this leader’s behavior fit the components of Hill’s Team Leadership Model?
· Are any elements missing?
· Would adding those elements make the coach more effective?
· How useful is the Team Leadership Model for coaching?
· What leadership approach might be more effective?
Be sure to include supporting evidence from your textbook and/or other scholarly research within your response.
Part 2
I Want to Be an Activist!
Research and select an activist whom you respect; someone working for a cause they believe in. Conduct research on your selected activist and write a 1-2 page response to the following questions:
· How did this person become an activist?
· How does he or she sustain passion for the cause?
· How does he or she influence others?
· Set and accomplish goals?
· What sets this person apart from others?
· Which of the five ethical principles apply to this person?
· Can anyone become an activist? Why or why not?
Be sure to include supporting evidence from your textbook and/or other scholarly research within your response.
