Persuasive Speech

First,

You will create a speech as a way to persuade or to actuate the class to your way of thinking on a specific topic. See the Course Schedule for the due date. Follow the instructions below to compete this assignment:

  1. Your speech should include the following:
    1. Present a problem.
    2. Reasons the problem exists.
    3. What we can do to fix the problem using documented evidence (not just your own opinion) to convince your audience.
  2. Create a 7-9 minute speech. Keep the following in mind:
    1. You may choose to structure your speech using the motivated sequence design or the problem/cause/solution design. 
    2. You should deliver your speech extemporaneously from brief notes that occupy no more than 4 notecards.
    3. Do not read your speech, but use as much eye contact as possible.
    4. Practice, and time yourself.

Second,

You will submit an outline before delivering your Persuasive Speech,

  1. Your outline must be typed in full-sentences.
    1. If the outline is not in full-sentence format, you will be deducted 15 points.
  2. Your speech outline must include the following:
    1. Appropriate introduction, including all 6 components of an effective introduction.
    2. Evidence of audience analysis throughout the speech (what will make the topic interesting for audience).
    3. At least 3 main ideas with 2 sub-points for each.
    4. Use of at least 2 different types of supporting material (book/newspaper/journal article, television/radio, interviews, Internet .com, .org, .net, etc.).
    5. Citation of at least 6 sources. Six sources is the minimum requirement. Your sources must be cited aloud during your speech.
    6. Action step in your last main point (solutions). You may wish to solve your problem through legislation or by changing an existing system. In addition, you must provide the audience with the potential to act based on your speech.
