I support the statement of: In the long run, busing helped Boston because it desegregated the school system, provided equal educational opportunity for minority students, and set the stage for racial healing and an improved racial climate in the twenty-first century.
When Boston began using the busing system in the 1970’s it open many opportunities up to students as well as adults, this began the shift in desegregating school systems since the African American students could be bused into the white school systems. Although this process caused for the National Guard to be called out during the “Boston busing crisis” in the end Boston schools were completely desegregated by 1987. This completely opened the doors for all students to have the ability to obtain the same level of education, although I’m sure there was still student to student bullying and probably even student to teacher bullying over race. Students were still able to obtain an education and this movement paved the way for where we are today, within schools with every type of student possible. The hardships these students had landed us where we are today, playing ball with someone of a different race, sharing meals and being able to study side by side.
