READ- wholeheartedly feel I can better understand the importance of ethical considerations in biomedical research by studying the history of research ethics. As a community, learning about these unethical practices in the past can help researchers and policymakers avoid making the same mistakes in the future and encourage them to prioritize ethical considerations in their work. It can also raise public awareness and increase transparency and accountability in biomedical research. Overall, learning about the history of research ethics can help people develop a more critical and thoughtful approach to biomedical research and contribute to the development of more responsible and ethical research practices.

There is ongoing discussion about the adequacy of current safeguards for human subjects in research. To protect human subjects in research, researchers and institutions should prioritize ethical considerations and follow regulatory guidelines such as the World Medical Association’s Declaration of Helsinki, the Belmont Report, and the Common Rule. Additional safeguards that could be implemented to protect human subjects in research include researchers making certain that participants fully understand the risks and benefits of participating in a study and provide adequate information about the study’s purpose, procedures, and goals (Gray et al., 2017).  Institutions should be more transparent about their research practices, and any violations of ethical standards should be held accountable. To avoid bias and ensure that research findings can be generalized to larger populations, researchers should strive to include participants from diverse backgrounds. Researchers and institutions should also constantly monitor and adjust their research practices to ensure they are in accordance with ethical guidelines (Ozano et al., 2020). Overall, protecting human subjects in research necessitates a multifaceted approach that includes ongoing monitoring, transparency, accountability, and adherence to ethical principles.
