The Role of the Social Worker

 

n his book How to Be an Antiracist (2019), Ibram Kindi says: 

But there is no neutrality in the racism struggle…One either allows racial inequities to persevere, as a racist, or confronts racial inequities, as an antiracist. There is not in between safe space of ‘not racist.’ The claim of ‘not racist’ neutrality is a mask for racism. (p.9) 

Kendi emphasizes the importance of taking action against the face of oppression. His focus was on racism, but we have seen that oppression is much larger and touches so many areas. What are some of the things a social worker can do to intervene in anti-oppression practices to achieve social change?
