Hi Freeman and Class,
You are making good points and there are several factors that should be considered before any law or regulation should be forced for sustainable practices, For example, cost, productivity, time, etc. While sustainability is important in many communities, businesses, etc. It is important to understand the impact of forcing such laws and regulations. It is important to factor in the overall outcome and long-term goals to determine if cost, time, and effort would be beneficial.
According to the “Committee For Economic Development “(2017),”Government regulation of economic and social activities permeates our lives. While regulation in many instances yields important public benefits, regulations often are imposed on individuals and organizations with too little thought or analysis of what is gained in comparison with the losses incurred in time, money, indecision, and productivity”(para. 3).
While it is important to have laws and regulations that help back many sustainability issues, the reality is that there may be those who may not be able to afford to comply with such regulations.
Class,
Based on this if the government does step in and make these mandatory should they ensure resources are available to those communities or businesses that may struggle with the implementations?
